He wants to love me...

One of my closest guy friends and I have have had various types of relationships with each other. We tried dating, he ended it. We tried Friends with Benefits, he ended it cause he saw my feeling growing and his weren’t. We recently had a conversation about this. And he said that he has always fallen for girls that will hurt him, and that he wants to love me. He wishes he loved me romantically, but he just doesn’t. There is no question here, but any thoughts or advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated!
