Smear test at what age?

Hey, i read on a medical website that Cervical screening is not recommended for anyone under 25 years, and I thought it was weird. I always thought that from the moment ylu lose your virginity, you should do the test every year. 
What do you think?

You *should* start doing it when you become sexually active, but I was sexually active for 4 years before they did one on me.
They wouldn’t do it until I was 21 for some weird reason!

It’s recommended to be seen by a gynecologist ages 13-15 before you’re sexually active, but I I’m not sure about at what age a pap should be done. I needed to get a pap in order to be put on birth control when I was 15. I wasn’t sexually active though and needed to control my horrible periods. They actually found that I had a bad infection I didn’t even knew I had. Guess it depends, but I think doing them sooner than your 20s would be beneficial.

I became sexually active around 18 but my PCP did not preform a pap until I turned 21. She did routine std/sti/pregnancy checks through blood/urine throughout the entire time though. Anything serious that will change antibodies levels can be detected in blood so she felt a pap wasn’t necessary since my bloodwork always came back perfect.

More than likely they will do a Pap smear once you tell the ob/gyn you have become sexually active, because of possible STDs/STIs and HPV. After the first pap, if the results come back with normal cells present then you will get another one in 3 years unless you get pregnant or have issues.

Back 2009 when I was 16 they did a pap on me. Then when I turn 18 I went back and they were gonna go another. My doctor told me they rather wait until your 21. Test aren’t accurate under 21 supposedly that’s what I was told. When I turn 24 I did one and they told me it’s every 3-5 years for me since my test comes out normal. I will get test next year again at 27￼
