Opening gifts a a party Tacky? 👶🏽🚿

I’ve always thought opening gifts at a party was tacky. My baby shower is next week. I’m wondering if it’ll be weird if I don’t open my gifts in front of the guests. Or might people think I’m rude, since it’s pretty standard to open gifts at baby showers? 🤔

I always thought the point was to open gifts in front of them 🤷🏻‍♀️ we have always done that at parties (bridal showers, birthday parties, baby showers, etc). I have never been to a party where they don’t do that. People want to see you open their gift and get excited about it. I have never heard of it being tacky. I thought that’s just what you do

Are you in the US? I’ve only been to one shower (it was a bridal shower) where gifts were not opened. I’m in the NE and it’s definitely the norm to open gifts at your shower. That doesn’t mean you have to though. I think if you don’t, it’s nice to address the fact that you aren’t for your guests.

I don’t like to do it personally. I like to just hang out with people and talk individually rather than have everyone around watching a spectacle. It’s not intimate.

I didn’t open the presents at my shower! For me it’s weird to sit there and be like “look at the the stuff I got!” If someone specifically asked me to open their gift I did but we didn’t gather everyone around and open all the presents. I sent a thank you to everyone at the party and thanked them individually before leaving. I think it’s just a bore to sit there and watch someone go open presents 🤷🏻‍♀️

My least favorite part of any shower— bridal or baby. I really hate opening gifts in front of people and hate being the center of attention. It makes me soo uncomfortable. We didn’t open any gifts at our shower. A good number were ordered and delivered straight to our place from the amazon registry anyway, so they weren’t even at the shower. 
I don’t think it’s as much of an expectation anymore— just like most showers aren’t women only anymore. No one even mentioned opening gifts besides my
mom, who understood when I said I didn’t want to do that.

I’m going to be honest with you. The opening gift part of the baby shower is the most boring part of the party. I plan not to open any gifts at my baby shower and I really dont care who doesnt like it. But to each its own.

I think it’s tacky! But that’s just me. I feel like you’re opening the gifts for EVERYONE else. Do what YOU feel comfortable doing! If you feel it’s tacky and don’t want to open them then don’t! It’s YOUR shower! I don’t want to open gifts at mine either and probably won’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

In both of my baby showers, I did opening gifts as a game so it wouldn’t be so weird. The game was guessing who brought the gift and if you got it wrong, they get to draw on you or your SO
