Cervix dilatation check ?? Hurt?

I’m 37 weeks + 4 days. I’m sitting in labour and delivery right now because I had high blood pressure which is fine now. They checked to see if my cervix was dilated. Let me tell YOU! That shit was so painful I was nearly in tears and screaming. My bf had the most terrifying look on his face. I’m not dilated at all. I can’t even begin to imagine how I’m going to handle labour pains if I couldn’t even handle that. Now traumatized. Not to mention the lady in the room next to me giving birth screaming her lungs out ....
