Child birth classes- worth it or not?

My husband keeps telling me he doesn't want me to do them because they aren't worth it. But my mom thinks I should, and is willing to pay for them and go with me.

I went for my first son and it was more common sense to me. They teach breathing techniques but I didn't use any of them. My SO wants to go for our second child and I honestly think it's a waste of a day. If you have zero clue about having babies then def go.

We are going because it was provided free for us. We loved the first one so far!!

I'm a visual learner so think the classes helped me a lot.  I feel like I got more out of them, than trying to read a book.  I took the breastfeeding class, baby care class,  and labor & delivery class.

I also feel more prepared,  I know anything can happen but at least i'm not going in blind and can calm down a little if it's not going as smooth as I would like it.

I also got to meet a lot of the nurses and got to tour the hospital so feel more comfortable.

If someone is willing to pay I'd say go for it . What do you have to lose ??? We didn't but with us being high risk we have had a lot of appointments. And extra expenses.

Read a book at the library. So much cheaper and you can read tons and gather whatever information relevant to you

I got a birthing dvd when I had my first and enjoyed it more than if I would have taken a class. To me the class isn't worth it, I've asked others about their experiences with them and they also said they wouldn't do them again. The dvd I felt was very informative and I could watch it more than once to refresh my memory. Also if there were parts I already knew about I could fast forward. It was also easy to get my husband to watch parts I felt he should know about rather than force him to listen to a bunch of stuff that didn't pertain to him and his role.

Most hospitals offer free classes, just ask your dr.

I was a nurse and have delivered and assissted in labor and delivery even cesarian section for my makor surgeries so i am very familiar... I dont feel its necessary for me.
