Why doesn’t he want solid foods?

I have an almost nine month old. Solid foods have been a CHALLENGE with him. He only will eat mushy stuff or stuff from his mesh feeder. Any kind of chunk of anything - even a food I know he already likes - is so offensive to him that he screams and cries.
I just tried to feed him a little bit of chicken, which he’s tried before. He got so mad over it being in small chunks that he started screaming and he screamed so hard he puked.
Is this normal? How can I help him adjust to chunkier food? I’m pulling my hair out over this because nothing seems to help.

My son didnt take to true solids till a year and even then it was a struggle. Just keep offering. Taking the purees isnt a bad thing.

Babies go through weird phases you can’t explain. As long as he’s otherwise eating and getting enough food I wouldn’t worry. Don’t try too hard because to force foods he’s expressing he doesn’t want or else he could develop an association where he just reacts like that every time. Just give him what he does eat. Take a break from offering new stuff and try again in a week or two. But still not making like he has to accept the bits of food. He’ll get there eventually

Have you tried bigger pieces of the items? We did baby led weaning and the pieces at that age were able to be held easily by baby and weren’t small pieces. Maybe baby would prefer that?

In my experience, my daughter wouldn’t go straight to chunks from purée. She needed stuff kinda mashed. “Fork mashed solids” is how Can Do Kiddo refers to it. They need transition between purée and chunks to learn about chewing and gumming. He may also just not be into it yet, and will be when he’s ready. I’d refer to your pediatrician; just give them a call about it.

baby probably isn’t ready yet. he will let you know when he’s interested. don’t stress , my daughter was the same way now she eats everything .
