Holiday inlaw travel. 500 mile drive or 2 hour (free) flight?

We have enough airline miles to fly free.  Driving used to take about 8 hours with minimal traffic and a quick stop.  With a 7 month old I’m thinking 10-12 hours???  And how much of that will he be screaming?
If we drive we won’t need to board our 2 dogs, but that makes the ride even more rough for all involved.
Hubby is also of the mindset that he hates stopping and has forced me to hold it or refused to stop for dinner and made me eat gas station snacks on more than one occasion pre baby.
Flying always has potential delays and germs and it will be December?  Baby had the flu shot already...Upside is the delays are in a fairly comfy airport with restrooms and food and not locked in a car.

I accidentally voted fly. I would drive because of the dogs. 500 miles isn’t that bad, but that’s because my husband and I have done 1500 miles one way without much sleep AND our dogs. Plus with how early you have to be at the airport and how crazy it’ll be during this time of year, driving seems like a better option.

Two hour flight with a 7 month old would be better, less stops to change feed or stretch and you can hold baby the entire flight. Just be prepared for some fussiness at the beginning and end of the flight due to pressure in ears but try getting baby to “blow” their nose and see if that helps any!

I’ve traveled with my now toddler and German Shepard countless times from 3hr-34hr road trips. If she already sleeps through the night I would take off during the night. That way you both can sleep in the trip and you don’t have to worry about eating gas station food.

So I have a lot of experience with this... pre baby my husband and I would drive to South Carolina from Kentucky which is about a 8 1/2 hour drive (with 2 stops, both times for gas, food and let the dog pee) We would go 4-5 times a year with our dog. Our daughter is almost 3 and we don’t go down as much now, probably 3 times a year. There is an ￼ allegiant flight from May-August that is an hour long and super cheap and we do that quite a bit. It’s awesome. We will be going down for thanksgiving Ina few weeks and I’m sure it will be a 10 hour drive minimum. My parents do watch our dog now because he’s just a mess in the car now and wants to be on our laps the whole way. I always like the flights and we take advantage of them when we can as long as they are a straight shot (no layover) trying to keep a young kid entertained in an airport is hard, and when we drive we always make our stops count, usually try to find a fast food with a play place
So my daughter can get some energy release
