Taking the thumb a problem?!

Question

My pediatrician saw today that my LO is taking her thumb and she said not to get her used to it ASAP. She said LO will get overbite issues and will be very hard to change the habit later on. 
She suggested to give her a rag or a dummy! But I think the dummy is just as bad. She has found her thumb to sooth herself. What can I do?

I was anti thumb sucking but now I get woken 2-3 times a night just to put the dummy pack in I would be over the moon if she found her thumb lol. How can something babies do in the womb be bad for them. Yes it’s something they will have to stop doing when they get older but so are other things. It might be hard or it could be easier you won’t know until it’s it.

it's crazy how pediatrician's give different advice...you'd think as a medical professional they'd mostly be on the same page. mine said the opposite. not that it won't cause teeth issues or what not but just that lucky for you, he can self soothe. I'm sure if I asked if it was a problem, they'd have said down the road it could be but honestly there is just so much out there we get to worry about now as new moms. I'd just go with it🤷

My LO is a thumb sucker as well. It is great because he now sleeps through the night because he can self soothe. My first baby never sucked his thumb but we used a paci and weaned him from that at 9 months old. I cannot for the life of me get this baby to use a paci though!

My lil girl loves her burp cloths.. she hold on to them n bites them.. she did start sucking her thumb sometimes, but not that often. She aldo only likes a pacifier sometimes too.. burp cloth is her #1bff..

It's pretty easy to take a pacifier away. My older boy lost his when he was 2.5 years old. We never gave it back when we found it after he went to bed. It is far easier to take a paci away than a thumb.

Just give her the pacifier it’s better than her thumb my son uses one I never used it for my first because well he didn’t want it. My new baby boy takes one however he only uses it for soothing purposes on his own he doesn’t suck on it just to suck on it. We use it for nap time and bedtime that’s it I offer it other time but he refuses it.

I have no advise  but I sucked my thumb until I was 5, I dont have a over bite and know other issues that stemmed from it, my brother also sucked him thumb and has know issues from it
