 'oh yeah, I got out 3 months ago and still live in the same neighborhood' 
and
'i was in a gang 20 years ago when I was 15 and then I got out and moved across the country and grew up'

Nope, Im from LA so theres a lot of gangs here. I grew up in an area where there were two prominent rival gangs and i know how hard it is to get out “clean”. Unless you completely move out of the area to another state or town hours away you will always be tied to that gang and it will always make you some type of target. Its hard to fully get out. Not to mention the men in these gangs are usually alcoholics or drug dependent, have committed crimes, all tatted up. Its just not my type. They come with too much baggage

Absolutely not that lifestyle is repulsive, I wouldn't associate myself with anyone who is or ever was in a gang for even a minute.
