So apparently very few pregnant women actually notice when they lose their mucous plug, and only 15% of women actually have their water noticeably break before going into labor. I am 37 weeks pregnant with my first and I know nothing! I was up nearly all night with what I hope was Braxton Hicks contractions. I have noticed no extra discharge Or mucous. How can I know when it is Braxton Hicks and when I should go to the hospital?

Labour contractions will be consistent, get closer together/longer and more intense as you progress into labour

Braxton Hicks aren’t consistent. You don’t have to loose your mucus plug and your water doesn’t have to break for you to go into labor. Once contractions are 5 minutes apart lasting for a minute and continue for an hour than go in.

I started having pain that I thought was BH starting at 2 a.m, and I had a NST at 8 and they informed me I was actually having contractions and by 9 p.m I was in active labor. I lost my mucus plug multiple times and the last time before having my daughter was like 3 weeks prior.
It's always worth a check :)

Timing is the only real way to tell, i lost like 1 small piece of my mucus plug a week or so before i went into labor , i lost all of it at the hospital when i was in labor and they had to break my water.

I never noticed losing my mucus plug and had no Braxton Hicks or regular contractions for that matter, but my water broke at 38+3. At my doc appointment the day prior my obgyn said I was nowhere near ready to deliver.

Not being able to talk through the contractions and the frequency of the contractions are things to pay attention to. I can't remember the exact frequency but your doctor should have a rule of some sort like so many minutes apart, lasting so long with so much time between.
