Breech Vaginal Delivery in 10 minutes

Laura

Yes. The topic is 100% what happened. I was scheduled for a C-section in 5 days because baby has been breech since 33 weeks. This is my second pregnancy.

This morning I woke up, took my child to school came home and went to go lay back down as I felt like I was maybe going to start having contractions. The contractions were definitely there and about 6 minutes apart and a little more intense than they had been (I would have very mild contractions days and weeks prior). I timed for about 2 hours until I went to restroom with some mucus and blood when I wiped.

Called doctors office and they instructed me to go to L&D. My bf has literally just left the house so I said I could wait til he got back. In that time (a little under 2 hours) I felt the contractions getting a little closer. More intense. I was preparing myself to head to hospital when he walked in the door and I said “LET’S GO NOW”.

The ride over was about 20 minutes and contractions getting closer to 4 minutes apart. Got to L&D. While checking in I had to take a massive poo so right after checking in I rushed to bathroom. In there the contractions were horrendous also. Came back out. And still the contractions were horrible. Waited for maybe 10-15 minutes til instructed to change into gown. So there I am, finally going to get hooked to monitor wasn’t on for 5 minutes when I told the RN these contractions were getting worse. They checked me and of course, there’s a little foot they can feel in the bag. 4-5 cm dilated. In just moments later the most intense contraction came and BOOM bag busts!

Immediately got stuck for IV and in that time I couldn’t not push. I have a FOOT 🦶 coming out of my vagina. Yes a whole little foot! Got rushed from the little station on first floor to elevator to OR cause breech baby needs a C-section, right!?

Wrong. This girl was coming and not slowing down. While in OR had some major contractions (still no drugs) but this wasn’t stopping. Luckily my doctor was in the hospital and was able to be there for delivery. When she saw how much baby had already entered the world she asked if I was ready to push and there we went. 5 hard pushes and I heard the best cry ever. The pain I had just endured did not even matter at that point.

I gave birth vaginally to my breech baby (thank god; I was dreading the scalpel), unmedicated (totally not planned; I wanted the drugs) and had no complications with my healthy baby girl.
