With everything being online, is it ok to have a bf online?

We have a friend in common we just never met. We matched on tinder but he is in the military and won’t come back for a year.

A few weeks into talking he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes but it’s weird considering we never met.

Edit: guys he’s in the military. He’s stationed states away but we have friends in common so I know he isn’t fake.
