Can a grandmother push breastfeeding ?

Okay so this is from a mom group I’m in. Some extra info she stated in comments was that she works, goes to school, and is in WIC. But obviously if you don’t read the comments and just go off the post a lot of people assume the grandmother is paying the way so that’s what i want to discuss since it created the most controversy. So if a mother is solely dependent on her parents for care should they be allowed to dictate if baby is fed formula or breastmilk? Should the grandparent/s also be able to dictate other aspects of parenthood under the excuse of money saving?

Is Grandma buying the formula? The Mom is 16, so it's likely.  Formula is expensive. Maybe Grandma can't afford to buy the formula.

Well, if she’s in WIC then they will give her formula so then grandma isn’t buying that so she has no say

I’m not sure how expensive formula is but maybe the mom can’t afford it for her daughters child. But no, I don’t believe that someone else should dictate how you choose to parent unless they are a doctor. But it’s tricky when you aren’t supporting your kid by yourself.

No never. She is still responsible for her minor daughter regardless so she does not get to use the “my house my rules” thing against her for breastmilk. That 16 yr old obviously cannot save up and go get her own apartment, so this isn’t about formula taking money away from that either. Her mom is being controlling and to an extreme extent.

Parents aren’t allowed to force minors to get an abortion or give their babies up for adoption, so I don’t think they should be able to do this either

No they shouldn't be able to dictate if she breastfeeds or not it's not their body or baby but that being said they have every right to refuse to buy formula or anything for the baby since it's not their baby or responsibly. She can't have it both ways. Either be self sufficient and care for your own child as you see fit or give it up for adoption or terminate the pregnancy if you can't afford a baby.
