Is it discrimination?

Emily

I've been to so many viewings, send so many applications and still nothing. I am currently living with family (mom, dad, and Nana) I'm a young mom who NEEDS my own space. I feel like shit for having to live with family but no one will rent to me! I am on Ontario works while raising my son, it's not much and I feel bad about using government assistance but I am a single mom and can't get child support even if I wanted to. I'm now in a great relationship and we would like to move in together, he still lives with his family and has a full time job. With our combined budget we can afford a nice 2 bedroom apartment. We have seen many places but none have accepted us and I'm beginning to wonder if it is discrimination. I have a almost 2 year old, I'm 20 & my bf is 21 and I am on Ontario works. The last application we had them respond and things looked good like we were going to get the place and then they say unfortunately we weren't accepted but didn't give any reason why. Is it exceptable to ask why your not excepted? I just want to know why no one is willing to rent to us :( we have enough to cover rent and utilities and everything else but I feel like when we go to viewings they talk more to the older people and just look at us like we have 5 heads, won't talk to us about the unit like they do with the older people looking at the unit. I'm fed up and need to be taken seriously, I'm trying to be the best mom I can for my son but when I feel like I need my parents in the room just to be taken seriously is absurd.
