Genetic testing

So my appointment is next week to do the testing for Down’s syndrome and other genetic issues. My OB does an ultrasound and measures the skull, the neck and other areas plus takes my blood. My husband and I want to do it because I’m the type I’d rather know now so I can be mentally prepared then a surprise and thrown into it. My OB also said “it’s not for you, it’s for us the doctors. So we know and can be prepared so it doesn’t turn into an emergency situation”

What is everyone else’s view on this?
