Baby shower/registry

I never thought anyone would buy me anything.

I'm military so, away from my family, not like they have money to spend, anyway. And I'm new to my duty station so it isn't like I've been able to buy anything for anyone else, yet..

I never expected anything. I have been using my registry as more of a personal shopping list.

And I decided not to even attempt a baby shower since I'm not close to anyone here..

But some acquaintances I have on social media did buy my some registry stuff and when I mentioned no baby shower at work, my coworkers 'chastised' me like Of Course they would all come...

I just dont know how to feel about any of this. Thoughts?
