Traveling for work with young children

I was recently given the opportunity to travel for work. Or more like temporarily relocate for work. It is a few months to half a year. This is an opportunity that will come along once in a lifetime. It would be me with the baby. Dad would be staying home for his job. He will come visit once a month and I will go home once a month, so we will see each other every other week.

My question is twofold:

Is it ok to uproot everything your baby knows, attend a new daycare, leave their pets, and not have Daddy around most nights?

Is it fair to the parent staying behind to not have their child home and be able to see them most days?

Would you change your mind if it was to work on a treatment to save the lives of babies?
