How do you know if you have PCOS for sure?
I know no one here is an Obgyn (bonus for me if you are!) so I realize the answers I get will be opinions. But this has been weighing on my mind. Last year, my obgyn diagnosed me with PCOS. He did an ultrasound to look at my ovaries and said they had cysts. And that's what gave me the diagnosis.
Fast forwatd to October 2019. Ive moved to a new state, thus have a new doctor. I told her what my old dox diagnosed me with and wanted her opinion. She said in order to be diagnosed, I have to have 2 of 3 symptoms.
1. Polycystic ovaries ✔
2. Abnormal hair growth 🚫
3. Abnormal/irregular menstruation 🚫
She did lab work on me and everything came back normal. She specifically told me my testosterone levels were normal, as I guess they would've been high if PCOS was a possibility. So in HER opinion, I dont have PCOS.
I am overweight. I know that. Currently Im 198lbs and am working on losing weight by going to the gym 3 times a week at the least. But she didnt say anything about my weight being a factor/symptom of PCOS while the first doctor did. So now Im like...do I have it? Do I not? I have no kids and have had difficulty getting pregnant for almost 2 years. Miscarried in early 2018. I have a period every month and ovulate. 3 failed IUIs. Have used both Clomid and Letrozole as medical assistants.
