Is it normal

We are going to start trying for a baby early next yr. My doctor told me to get on prenatal vitamins. I've been taking them daily, but oh god this period is so bad. Now I normally have heavy periods but nothing compares to this one. Everytime I go to the bathroom I have nickle size clots. It also a rush to the bathroom because even with a tampon in I can feel blood coming out. It's about every 3 hrs I have to change both tampon n pad. The tampon which is size super plus is completely soaked. I'm sorry for tmi but is this normal?
