I can't take it any more ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I'm 20 years old. The last 8 or 9 months I've had awful sleep issues. I've always been a light sleeper, so I'm used to not getting the best sleep, but this is insane.
Every night I wake up practically every hour. Sometimes it's to get a drink or use the bathroom, but usually it's just me tossing and turning and staring at the ceiling.
It's gotten to the point where I need to sleep 10-14 hours a day because I just can't stay asleep. I have no free time because when I'm not at work, I'm so exhausted that I need to go home and sleep immediately. (And I only work 7-2, 4 days a week so I know work isn't the issue)
I don't have anxiety, depression, or any other medical issues.
I've tried different pillows, different sheets, and lowering the temperature of our bedroom. Occasionally my boyfriend snores, and one of us will go sleep in one of our guest rooms if I'm bothered.
I've tried no screen time for 1-2 hours before bed.
I've tried melatonin.
I try to be in bed by 8 so my circadian rhythm will be healthy.
I went to a sleep specialist and they ruled out sleep apnea immediately. They wanted me to do an in-clinic sleep study, and I was really excited to finally get to the bottom of these issues, but once I found out that it would cost us over 4 grand even with insurance, I said fuck that.
So far the only thing I've found that works is 3mg of melatonin, and a tablespoon of extra strength NyQuil before sleeping. Using that, I sleep for about 2-3 hours at a time before waking up, then going back to my 1 hour awakenings. I know it's not heathy to rely on NyQuil as a sleep aid, and I want to stop using it but don't know what else I can do. It's not heathy to take lots of melatonin either, so I'm afraid to go over 3mg since I take it every night.
Any suggestions? Anyone with similar issues? I'm getting to my wits end, it's like torture ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
