How do you discipline your LO’s..?

Growing up my adoptive mother would hit me in order for me to “listen” and it did not work bc i was still rebellious as a child. Now that i have kids of my own i had specifically told my husband I have a no tolerance of hitting our kids. I feel like it’s not right! 
Well, today my 13 month old was slapped on the hand by my FIL!! I’m livid af! I don’t know how to react.. and now it’s an issue bewteen my husband & I..

I slap the top of my sons hand to discipline him sometimes, but he’s my son, your FIL has no right to discipline your child in any way unless you approve of it, which you obviously didn’t

I’d be absolutely pissed. A 13 month old is still a baby learning right from wrong! No one is to lay their damn hands on any of my babies. F that!

No one should every automatically assume parents are okay with physical punishment. I would be livid.

I don’t have children yet (haven’t decided if I want to at all), but if I do have kids and someone hit them, they would NEVER see my child again

I mean are we talking a SLAP... or a tap like “no no”.  I think that age for me... its kind of like sign language in a way because they hv yet to truly understand. But theres a diff in a tap and slap for sure.

I'd have an issue too but not for the slap. I'd have an issue that someone who is NOT my child's parent, disciplined MY child. That is imo solely a child's parents duty. I almost knocked the teeth out of my ex-sil for smacking my child once. I promise, she never did it again. My kids are off limits, smack me if you want but not my kids.

Sounds like a conversation you should have with your husband. It's up to you two how you want your child disciplined. 
Then, it's up to your husband to have a conversation with his father. If your FIL knew how both you and your husband felt about physical discipline and did it anyway, that is seriously disrespectful. But if he didn't know and thought what he was doing was in the best interest of your child, I don't think it'd be that big of a deal as long as he doesn't do it again. 
Let your FIL know that discipline is up to the parents and it's the grandparents job to love their grandchildren. If the child needs disciplined then talk to the parents.
