How soon to take test?

So I’m currently breastfeeding and haven’t had a period yet. However my husband I decided for fun to not try to get pregnant, but not prevent it either because we’d be okay having another one now. I was wondering since I haven’t had a period, how long should I wait to take a test? If any of you have gotten pregnant again before your period when did you test? Thank you in advance!

If it was me, I would probably test once a month until my period return or until a positive test.

I am about 8 weeks pregnant now (I think.. my period never returned so it’s hard to tell!) and we basically did the same thing. We wanted to start trying but figured our chances were low with my cycles not returning yet, so we just didn’t try but didn’t prevent. After my little guy turned 6 months I started taking a pregnancy test just once a month because I figured I could become pregnant and not realize it; maybe my symptoms would be different while breastfeeding or something. Then finally the last test I took a few days sooner than the one month mark I had been doing, because I felt like my nipples were more sore while breast feeding (usually I didn’t have any pain with this) & just a few other little things that made me think, huh.. I better test! & it was definitely faintly positive right away.
