Cleft lip repair: updated
My son had corrective surgery for his microform cleft lip yesterday. He did so well! My heart broke when I couldn't feed him beforehand and he cried for an hour straight. His daddy said that is how he is when I am at work and he gets hungry... he wants nothing to do with the bottle and just wants boobie. Luckily I only work 3 days a week so far as he is 3 months and I don't want to be away from him too much. This week his doctors gave me a note for work, so I will be home with him while he heals. My heart broke again when he woke up from the anesthesia and his little nose was bleeding and he was wailing... but once he ate and daddy guessed that his diaper was dirty and we changed it he was all good! He's been sooo good! Such a happy boy. We live on an outer island in Hawaii so our insurance flew us to Honolulu to have his surgery done by the specialist at the Kapiolani Children's hospital. They got us a 1 bedroom suite/apartment for the night which I wasn't expecting and was a nice surprise after such a trying day. I thought we'd just get a cheap hotel room.

The doctors wanted us to stay on island overnight just in case, but he was discharged to us right after his surgery and once they knew he was all good.
Update 12/12/2019
He is still doing good, although he's been very fussy all night and this morning. He woke up every couple hours when he usually sleeps a good 5-7 hours, then another 2-3 hrs in the morning after a change and feed.
It has been very trying keeping him from playing with it or putting his hands in his mouth. We were given elbow braces... he is good for a moment in them then gets really upset. Got velcro swaddled, too, which he doesn't mind to much if he's really sleepy.
Update April19th:
He healed quickly I feel. You can barely tell now that he had any surgery done. We are still massaging vitamin e oil into the scar tissue daily. We have our third follow up in June.
He is growing so fast and already has 4 teeth!
