Born This Way

I've seen so many posts about parents giving birth to little babies with Down Syndrome, I also know from talking to a lot of parents I work with, the hospital tends to tell you all the things your baby might not be able to do, all the potential medical issues, ect. While these are important to know, I think the lack of positive information can be overwhelming.

Born This Way is an amazing docuseries that follows young adults with down syndrome, their lives, jobs, relationships, dreams, and more. I highly recommend everyone watch it, but especially if you're a parent who was painted a negative picture from the hospital, please watch this show. You're in for a beautiful life.

The show was inspired by the speech Don't Limit Me by Megan Bomgaars which you can watch on YouTube.

I have worked with youth who have cognitive disabilities for a lot of my career as a therapeutic recreation specialist, and my sister has a cognitive disability from being born too early and having a lack of oxygen, and while yes there are hard times, there are so many positive experiences.
