C section recovery

For those of you who have had a csection, what was the recovery like? My high risk doctor mentioned the possibility of needing a c section in a couple weeks and I'm wondering how much time my SO should take off of work to be home to help me out.

We have a two year old already and I've been told from a couple other people that I wont be able to pick him up for a little while.

So tell me the ins and outs of the recovery process and time. How long did it take until you were feeling kind of okayish, when are you able to lift a toddler (30lbs) and be able to care for the household pretty sufficiently on your own? I would be getting the c section on the 30th so my SO figured he would take the first week of January off and half of the second week, possibly the whole second week. I would imagine I should be okay to manage the two kids on my own after 2 weeks?
