Co sleeping

Hey ladies I’m trying to phase my baby boy out of co sleeping. He’s 6 months. Last night I laid him down in his crib and I ended up having to sit in there with him and sing him to sleep. Nevertheless tho he fell asleep and was okay once I left. The problem came when he started to roll over in his sleep. He’s a side/stomach sleeper so I got nervous and took him out his crib because my worse fear is him smothering himself accidentally in his sleep. Any moms have any tips for safe crib sleeping? Or am I just paranoid?
