My very first heart break sent me an email 2 years after we had broken up, to apologize for his behavior and the way he treated me. He had joined the navy and had had time to reflect on things he had done in his life and jist wanted to clear the air. Said I was the best girlfriend he ever had, and the nicest person and that he was sorry he took advantage of me. It wasn't a reconsiliation email by any means. He jist genuinely felt bad, and I had already been with my now husband for well over a year at that point. I see no harm in clearing the air at any point. I have always appreciated that email.

My ex after we dated for 2 years and he cheated on me and lied to me and raped me multiple times in that time frame. Found me after we had been broken up for... 5 years I believe. found me and admitted to everything and apologized after he spent all this time denying everything. I'm sure it made him feel a hell of a lot better. Didn't particularly phase me because I already came to terms with everything.

3ish years ago I left my ex fiance in a terrible way. It was more dramatic than it needed to be but this past year I sent him a text confirming it was still him and wrote out this long ass message apologizing for the way things went. I felt so much better after I did that.

But that's just me.

If you were in the wrong, you should always apologize. Whether it's 10 minutes or 10 years later, it's never too late to take responsibility for your actions.

Depends if u were wrong bout break up and it's really weighing on u there is no harm in clearing the air but if u did nothing wrong let it go. Obviously it's still weighing u down bc 3 yrs later u feel like u need to say something so I don't see the harm in it.
