Babies crying in restaurants

A

I know a lot of us on here are moms or moms to be so this will be interesting.

Today at lunch, me and hubby were eating at a chain family restaurant. 2 new parents came in with their small baby. They were seated and shortly after the baby started screaming her head off. Both mom and dad tried calming her and I felt for the both of them because I can imagine how frustrating and embarrassing that must be in a public place.

Mom got up and tried to rock her to sleep. One older woman in the neighboring booth yells loudly enough for me and hubby both to hear from across the restaurant, “Jesus, RIGHT in my ear”. The poor mom felt she had no choice but to take the baby out of the restaurant in the freezing cold to appease that nasty woman. Like how rude of her?!

My question is, who was in the wrong here? I understand people want to enjoy their meals, but there’s no reason to make rude comments because of a baby who can’t help themselves. New parents should be able to go out and enjoy a meal too.

Thoughts?
