Why did you even ask what they wanted

I’m honestly so annoyed and I don’t want to sound ungrateful but I have 2 boys. They get toys EVERY CHRISTMAS & EVERY BIRTHDAY. Not just one toy. They get several. Lots. & people always ask “what do they want for Christmas?” & I always say “books, puzzles, crafts, shoes/clothes.” 
Guess what they never get? & guess what I’m doing today? Donating and throwing away toys because once again all they got was a shit ton of toys they are gonna like for a whole 2 hours 🙃 I have nowhere to put all these toys!!!! Ugh.

Same. I know it sounds so ungrateful but every single toy my son got this Christmas I want to donate. I told every single person that asked, HE DOES NOT PLAY WITH TOYS, he plays with trucks (which he has a million of) plays hockey with his dad, plays outside or colours. He has no interest after 10 minutes in the tool set my MIL got him, the dartboard my SIL got him, the cash register my cousin got him etc. I always say no toys, but we’d love books, clothes, experiences (tickets to the movies, zoo, swim lessons etc) only my parents actually listen, it drives me crazy.

We hardly got any toys for our kids this year because they get so many toys from everyone else. I mostly bought them arts and craft stuff, puzzles, board games, books, etc. We literally have a mini van packed with toys from family members right now. There are so many we don’t even have the room for them so I can totally relate. I even gave my MIL a gift limit but of course she went over the top AGAIN. 😖🤦🏼‍♀️

Take to a shelter. Honestly I’ve got a box by my front door of unused but new baby items! I’ve got 1 family in need and the rest go for donations. 
We know whatever my in laws give we have to give away as the toys are way to old for her, clothes too small/way too big (think 5+ year old size), and my MIL gives the same items (flash light, nail clippers, cups, slippers, socks, etc) to us year after year. We live in a small house so we can’t keep it all. Donate time! 
This year she got the baby pj’s, but all the wrong size. Thankfully they were from carters so I could return it all. 
But I specifically ask for clothes or books. No toys and we still get them. 🤷🏻‍♀️ my hubby and I only gift clothes and books. Toys are a dime a dozen.

That’s literally my husbands family. It’s always stuffed animals. Ranging from tiny to gigantic. Our house is now full of stuffed animals. (Might I add, she only gives a crap about like 5 out of the probably 50)

I told everyone to get my son books and Xbox gift cards. That’s literally all he’s into right now. Anything else will just sit there.
