All we want is privacy after birth but we don't want to be rude.

With our first we kind of let people do whatever they wanted as far as visiting. This time, My husband and I have decided that we want no family at the hospital after our c-section or the first two weeks visiting or staying and pretty much no friends the first month until we're somewhat on a schedule and our toddler has started to adjust. However anytime we navigate the subject others seem very upset and we don't know how to directly relay our strict wishes without hurting feelings. What's your best suggestion on how to do this and how did you handle family and visitors your first month?
