Grandparents Rights?

My mom was texting me and when I told her I didn’t want her there when the baby is born she threatened to take me to court for grandparents rights. I’m so upset. Can she get grandparents rights? She was physically and emotionally abusive to me my entire life, her house is full of dog poop/pee that she rarely cleans up, she smokes cigarettes in front of every baby/toddler I see her with and smokes in front of me while I’m pregnant, and overall she’s just not a good person. She is still horrible to me even now that I’m an adult. However, all of my siblings would defend her because they weren’t physically abused like I was and she has been a single mom so they basically just excuse every horrible thing she does by saying “she’s just really stressed you can’t blame her”. I’m worried because my family will only say wonderful things about her and horrible things about me. Does anyone have any advice or experiences with this kind of situation? Thanks in advance!

First of all: no one can force you to have someone present at the baby’s birth. No matter what relation they are to you. Period. 
Second of all: not every state has grandparents rights. And for those that do: it’s for kids that are already born. The grandparent needs to prove that prior to the court hearing, they’ve been a constant present and big part in the baby’s life. 
So I just wouldn’t let her be around the kid much at all. And honestly: you have a duty to keep that kid safe. So even if she wasn’t 
Threatening grandparents rights, you still shouldn’t let your baby around her much. Because if she abused you then she might abuse your baby too. And she just sounds like a toxic and generally unsafe person for your kid to be around anyways. 
You have the upper hand here. Not her. Keep your baby at a distance and definitely never leave baby alone with her. Remember: that’s not only your right, but your duty in cases like these.

Grandparents rights def don’t apply to the delivery room, that’s just silly. You decide who you want (and don’t want) in the room. You can just tell the nursing staff and they will make sure she gets nowhere near you.

There is no way that someone will court order a grandmother to be present for a medical procedure where she’s not only not necessary, but likely a hinderance to the procedure.

🙄 grandparent rights aren't a thing. The only thing grandparents have is that family has first "dibs" to the fostering of your children if cps/court declares both you and the babies father are unfit parents.

Every state is different, but no. There really aren’t grandparents rights unless a grandparent had been the child’s guardian for a long time.

If you need, call a lawyer for some advice. 
Here’s what we did: don’t allow anyone in the room. Tell nursing staff and have it in writing that mom is not allowed. You could verbally say she was abusive when you were younger. 
They can’t allow her in the room if you don’t let it. My MIL tried the same thing. Didn’t work.

Lol no. Your mam delusional. They only apply if they are part of the kids life like as a caretaker and say parents divorce and one parent doesn’t want the grandparent involved out of spite, that’s when those rules apply but it needs to be backed with years of connection and bonding.
