Cold sore transmission

So I suffer from occasional cold sores. I went out with this guy that I’ve been talking to, and I had a cold sore on my mouth. I got the cold sore the day after he went down on me, and he kissed me after that.

The next day he kissed me hello (shared saliva) but I forgot I had the cold sore.

5 days later, he got a cold sore. He’s pretty mad about it.

Does this mean he has HSV1 now like I do? Or is this just a one time occurrence?

Help me console him to save this relationship pls 😭
