Has anyone tested positive for group B strep?

I just found out that i tested positive and im really worried. I been reading that its not a “big deal” but i had three miscarriages before so this is something big for me if it means baby life is at risk. 😢 my doctor just told me that i will be getting anti biotics during labor every 4 hours and i dont have an appt with her until tuesday!! Long wait to get my questions answered.

I’ve had it with 3 of my 5 pregnancies. It generally isn’t a big deal. I got the antibiotics once, the other labor was too fast, and this one will probably either be too fast, or I’ll get induced and have the antibiotics. I sent a message to my midwife about it and this is what she said, “The risk to the baby occurs when the amniotic sac is broken.  If you begin leaking amniotic fluid at any point, please come to labor and delivery to be evaluated and treated.  The risk for transmission to the newborn is 3% if the mom is untreated and less than 1% if the mom is treated during labor. “So, the risk is pretty low. My baby that I didn’t get the meds fast enough was totally fine. They just had us stay an extra day to keep an eye on her. I hope her words give you some reassurance until you can see your physician.

You'll be okay, the statistics for your baby being harmed are low and that's only if you deny the antibiotics. So with them you'll be okay. I'm sure it's still worry some though when you have lost babies before, I can't imagine.

I've had it with all my pregnancies. It's not a big deal. They'll give you penicillin while you're in labor..

Yes this is my second time. They just give you antibiotics through IV. You have to have at least 2 bags while in labor, at least that's what my doc and hospital said. It really is no big deal.

I haven’t been tested yet but I was born 6 weeks early so my mom hadn’t had the test yet. She was positive and did pass it to me during delivery. Since they didn’t know she had it I guess they didn’t think to take any precautions either and I had some complications but they caught it. I was in the hospital for a couple of weeks but mostly due to being premature and needing breathing assistance. I’ve had no lasting issues from contracting it and I’ve been perfectly healthy for 28 years! Due in 6 weeks :) good luck with your delivery!

U should be good with antibiotics if u were planning on accepting them on ur birth plan

I had it with my first ten years ago and my diagnosis was high and they told me if I was to go into preterm labor then we both could've died from it! I delivered her in the hospital and we both were fine but yes I had to get the antibiotic before I had her! And then they broke my water and I still labored for 36 hours!

I had it with my first and it wasn’t a big deal.  I had to be given an iv of antibiotics a couple of hours before delivery.  Dr said that if my water broke on it’s own to come in right away to start the meds and if water doesn’t break on its own they wouldn’t break it for me until after I was done.  I get tested next week for baby #2 and I’m not worried because it was really a non factor the first time.  Good luck!
