Letting four year old drink coffee?

Question

So I have a friend who has a four year old son. She works late usually so her father watches him. Well her father comes to this restaurant to drink coffee every. Day. I know this because I work there too. Well he usually brings his grandson but he lets his grandson drink coffee with him. Not just one cup, multiple cups. We have free refills so they will sit there for 1-2 hours constantly refilling. I didn’t know if she knew he did this so I kinda just brought it up like “hey you let ** drink coffee?” And she said of course that’s it’s perfectly fine and what not. But I thought coffee would be unhealthy to children? My little brother used to sneak my parents and they’d freak about how bad it is. Were my parents just overreacting? Cause now I’m not sure. My aunt decided to give my one year old coffee while she was babysitting and I wanted to flip shit but my same friend told me I’m overreacting. Maybe it’s just cause I personally hate coffee lol

Nope. I might let a child that age have one sip if they wanted to try it, but I'm not even sure about that. A child of four shouldn't be drinking anything but water or milk, possibly juice. But I wouldn't even give a four year old juice unless they were sick and not drinking enough water, but that's just me. Four is far too young to load up on caffeine and sugar. I can't imagine all of that isn't affecting his body in a negative way.

Holy hell I’m just imagining my 4 year old with coffee and I want to cry. That’s a no from me. AND A ONE YEAR OLD? I wouldn’t let my kids alone with anyone who did that.

So, would I give my son coffee at that age? Hell no. Lol. But I have heard it to actually be very common in some countries. Like I knew this family from Mexico and it amazed me the kind of stuff they said they gave their son when he was a baby, and that their parents gave them as small kids. Lol so I'm not super shocked by this.

I’ve been drinking coffee since I was two. My grandparents are New Yorkers and started giving me coffee when I could hold a cup. I love coffee she don’t really see the issue. Coffee actually calms me down. 
On another note, I know you meant well but if isn’t your kid. Mind your business honestly. I don’t mean that in a rude way but regardless of how you feel about giving a kid coffee it isn’t your place to question another parent she the decision on giving it to them.

I’ll save the last sip of tea in my cup for my toddlers, I don’t drink coffee though. I’d never give them a full cup of tea though. I see it  no different then any other treat.

Wow! I love coffee but I would never give it to a child. There are many health benefits from it but not for a child’s tiny developing body. If parents are ok with so much energy that’s on them but the possible heart problems are just so unnecessary.
