Scholarship/FAFSA pell grant help?!?
If any of you could help me understand the pell grant from fafsa that would be awesome. So basically I am an early grad meaning I graduated from high school this December. I have decided to take classes at my technical college for what would have been my last semester of senior year in high school, meaning I will have an extra semester of college along with my normal four years for nursing according to my step mom. I have recently filled out my 2019-2020 fasfa and it has been submitted and processed, as well as my 2020-2021 fafsa. My college has received the 20-21 submission, but not the 19-20 fafsa yet however I am going to talk to them tomorrow about that and my pell grant. Anyways fafsa sent me an email saying my 19-20 form was submitted and processed and that my estimated pell grant was $6,195. My question is, is that for just the 2019-2020 school year, or my maximum amount for all my four years of college. My step mom is telling me not to accept any of this pell grant money this semester, except for $200 for the one Spanish book I need to purchase, because if I do I will be a year short when I transfer to my 4 year university for nursing. I want to take out about $1,100 for a laptop this semester. I have an iPad that I got to use this semester, but I feel like also having a laptop will be useful because I am taking 3 online classes this semester and I would also like the have the choice between the two. I told her that I planned to get a laptop with some of my pell grant anyways and she told me I should wait until next semester, but I don’t see the difference in waiting until the next school year as compared to getting it now. If anything I would rather have the choice now with my 3 online classes. What do y’all think? I want the MacBook Air, which I guess you could say is overrated, but if I have money from my pell grant I might as well get what I want and what I know will last. I know if I get it my step mom will be pissed and talk shit to my dad, so in return they will both be pissed at me, but if I make sure I have enough pell grant and scholarship money to last me through college I don’t see what the issue is... what do y’all think?
