Crib or pack n play for Newborn?

Question

My son turned two in November and as of right now I don’t feel that he is communicating well enough to switch him to a big boy bed. We plan to have him switched over when he starts communicating better or when he turns 3. 
We have a baby coming in March and don’t have a second crib on hand which means we’d have to buy another crib and mattress just to be used for 8 months or less. 
Should we buy another crib anyway or put her in the pack n play until my toddler is ready to make the switch?

I used the bassinet part of the week pack n play until about 2 months and then put the crib up.  My 2nd only slept in the pack n play until she moved into a toddler bed.

We bought convertible cribs so they have their same bed for years to come.
I’d use a bassinet instead of a pack and play

My son used a bassinet till he was 9 months old, so I would personally say get a bassine for go pack and play as you can still use the pack and play for other things, seems pointless to buy 2 cribs for such a short use of time

My son is 2.5, I’m due in March too and plan on room sharing with baby in a pack and play for 6 months at least (the same one my 2.5 year old slept in for his first 6 months which worked well). We put a big boy bed in his room last weekend, he’s very excited about it during the day but when it comes to nap or bedtime he’s very against it but we’re putting no pressure on him as we really don’t need the crib until end of September or October.
