Birth Control Help

Hello!

I want to start taking birth control however its been 5 days since my period ended. If I start taking the pills regularly today, will the contraceptive still work? I am planning to take it for the month and then have my period, take it again and then so on and so on. I was just wondering if taking it during this time of the month would make it not work? Any help would be really appreciated.
