Would you convert your crib? Read description all the way through.

So today my 16 month old climbed out of her pack and play and face planted. We went to the ER and she is ok. Obviously I’m worried about her climbing out of her regular crib. Would you convert to a toddler bed since she climbed out of the pack and play? Or since it’s a different bed wait? I’m just worried she is too young for a toddler bed. Not sure what to do.

Once they've climbing you should convert your cot to a toddler bed, and also remove baby gates (unless your child has no interest in them). They will always hurt themselves more if they climb and then fall, rather than just falling. My son was in a toddler bed at 14 months.

My son is 2 and sleeps in a sleep sack in his crib. He has no idea that climbing out of his crib is even an option because he can’t lift his legs high enough. I plan to keep it that way until he outgrows this sack.

When our son climbed out of his crib around 15 months, we lowered the mattress and now he’s still in it at 20 months and hasn’t tried again. Maybe see if you can lower the crib.

I’m an overthinker. So I’d measure the height difference between the side of the pack and ply vs the side of the crib. If it’s a significant difference then I’d consider the crib. But if it’s only a matter of a couple inches, then I’d say it’s time to convert to safety’s sake.

My 14 month old is in a toddler bed. She fell out twice and hasn’t fallen out since. When she did fall, she didn’t even cry and just went back to sleep on the floor bc the bed is damn near on the ground. If you’re afraid of your child falling, then maybe just the mattress on the floor. Your kid is telling you they don’t want to be trapped anymore. Kids that young can’t speak with their words but do so with their actions.

Take the spring system ( the part you lower in cribs) out completely and either put the mattress directly on the floor, or buy a thin cheap mattress to put under it if there’s a gap. We did this with my son and he’s 2 and still in his crib. I wasn’t ready for him to have free reign of his room yet

We're in the process of transitioning my 14mo to a twin bed. He hasn't climbed out of his crib yet but little sister will need it soon. There's a rail so he can't roll out and he does fine
