Time for a toddler bed?

Question

When did you guys start using a toddler bed? And do put a gate in their bedroom door? I think my daughter is ready. But I'm worried she will wake before me and NOT wake me up and just go throughout the house.

We first took one of the sides of the crib off

And then I put one of those baby gates next to her bed with the chair holding it in place. Some are going to say “so unsafe etc” but it gave me peace of mind knowing she wouldn’t fall off in the middle of the night. She never did!
Money was tight and I didn’t see the point of buying a toddler bed she’d be in for maybe another year. We did the transition at about 16-18 months and then got her a big girl bed probably 3 months later. Saved us a step. Went from crib to big girl bed ☺️
I had a baby monitor and kept anything unsafe picked up/all furniture secured in case she did wake and not call for me. But we never had an issue. She would always wake up and call for me before getting outta bed. Never had an issue. Hope it helped ☺️

We are doing it the week he turns two. And putting a baby safety door handle thingy on the inside of his room door so he can’t open it and just run amok

I was told they don’t sleep as well once they go into a bed so I’m too scared to try haha. 
My friend tried at 2 and her previously good sleeper started getting out of bed in the night and coming into her room. He’s back in a cot bed now.
My son rolls around loads in his sleep too so I’m scared he’d fall out of bed 🤣

We transitioned today! He couldn’t be happier and has gone straight to sleep without any issues.

We just transitioned from a crib to toddler bed. I'm 8 months pregnant and it was just getting too much to lift her in and out. It took a few days but she got used to it just fine. When I leave the room I closer the door and immediately turn on the monitor. Many naps/night times she will get out of bed at least once, come to the door, sometimes get a book or walk around her room for a minute and then get back in bed. I just watch her very closely to make sure she's not getting into too much trouble.

My oldest wouldn't sleep outside a crib or pack and play till he was well over 2 he just didn't feel safe it was a hard transition involving a sleep tent and us laying at the end of his bed till he fell asleep every night for a while. My second however was like 13 or 14 months old when we turned her crib into a toddler bed and she did awesome. She would get up and wander at night if we didnt keep the door shut but once we started shutting her door she just slept through the night and would get up and knock on her door in the morning to be let out

At about 18 months i started out with her mattress in my room on my floor. About a month or two later i put it back in her bed in her room and began making her sleep there. She does great with it. We close it until she falls asleep then i open her room door and then mine. Every single morning she comes running to wake me up. If she stays up a bit before waking me she just plays inside of her room and watches her tv. She does really great with it honestly. And at night in case she gets up in the middle of the night and need me or something i have a few small lights on to light the path from her room to mine since they’re across the house from eachother but it’s never happened.
