Sucking only for food, never comfort.

Mayla

First time mum with a 2 month old exclusively breastfed baby girl. :)

My daughter was born 8p pound 2 oz and was in the 50th percentile for weight until her 8 week check up where she is now at the 25th percentile. She was 10 pounds 5oz and 56.5cm at that check up. The nurse didn’t really have much to say about it.

I brought it up to my sister who had a small baby, struggled with breastfeeding and her son was such a chubby monster and was in the 90th percentile at every check up. She said that she would literally just put him in the boob every time he cried and let him comfort suck all the time.

I have LOTS of milk and my daughter refuses to comfort suck, I think it is due to me having such a big let down (about 15-20ml) that she won’t comfort suck because she doesn’t want any milk. She only eats when she’s VERY hungry and sucking like crazy. If I try to feed her before she is ready she will refuse and probably wait 10-15 minutes before she decides she’s starving. 🤦‍♀️

She unlatches a lot during feeds to burp because she’s taking in too much air from sucking like a manic, but will cry as soon as she unlatches and starts looking for the boob again. If I don’t burp her and let her latch again she will grunt and pull on my nipple, kick her legs, push the boob away and unlatch again.. doing this over and over again. If I sit her up to burp she will push against me to get back to the boob.. and cry. 🤷‍♀️ I usuallyet her cry it out until I get a burp up otherwise this could go on the whole feed.

I’m not sure what to do because she takes in so much air because she sucks like crazy because she won’t eat unless she’s starving! 🤦‍♀️ does anyone have any advice.. 😭
