Rug in playroom?

Question

We're moving and will use one of the rooms downstairs as a playroom and I'm debating whether we should have a rug in there or not. It's a brand new wood floor. The pro is that a rug is nice to sit and play on, but the con is that our oldest play a lot with his train set and I'm thinking it's not very easy to play with that on a rug, also a rug makes it a bit more of a hassle to clean. What do you think?

Why not just get a train themed rug?

If you’re worried about the cleaning and if they’ll be able to play with the train sets, maybe look into a play mat instead

Play may or a washable rug. We got a washable rug off of amazon - plum colored to blend in with our furniture. Really helping us on the hardwood floors and babe loves playing on it. It’s so big that it won’t fit in our washer but I could take it to a laundry mat. It’s like 11x9, had we gotten a slightly smaller size the 9x7.5 it would fit in our washer. I think we paid $125. It’s not the ruggable brand you see online promoted a lot. It’s basic but gets the job done.

I think it’s depends on the age of your kids. A rug is useful when they’re younger due to all the falls and tumbles. When they get older though, I’d probably stick with the wood floors.
