What’s everyone doing for childcare early on?

Any advice in finding good childcare? I only have six weeks of maternity leave and I still have no idea what to do about child care. How did you find good child care? We have no family here.

If you’re thinking about doing daycare you need to look at places ASAP! With my first son we had to get everything set by like 16 weeks (16 weeks into the pregnancy, not when the baby was 16 weeks haha).

Daycares sometimes have a long wait so I recommend looking it to it sooner than later... we started early in the second trimester and the openings were right for March 2020. (And the end I got an option to work from home after having my baby so we dropped the daycare idea).

I was initially worried about getting on day care waitlists because my husband and I are on our own where we’re living now, too, but the more I thought about it and became annoyed with deposits and application fees, I decided I’m not really considering it before age 2 or 3. It’s at least $2000/month here for day care!
With disability and PTO, I get about 3 months. My husband will then have 6 months. So baby will be about 9 months when we need to make a final decision... I still think that’s way too young to leave baby with someone else, in a facility, so I’m considering quitting my job once my husband goes back to work. We’ve saved and worked our asses off, this would be worth it for our family. The other option is to move back to our hometown sooner than we hoped—my sister in law just had a baby and offered to watch our baby, too, since she’s not going back to work for a few years. 
The sacrifice is real!

6 weeks?! Oh my goodness. Where are you based? We get six months as standard in Ireland. Most people take a full year off. I put my name down for January/February 2021 already they have very long waiting lists for creches

I am taking 6 month maternity leave and we nabbed one of the last spots to get our girl in starting in September 2020.  I would definitely look soon as we got one of the last spots for this time when I was only 15 weeks pregnant.  This nursery was actually our second choice because our first one was already waitlisted for over a year out!  This is in the UK though for top rated nurseries.

You’ve gotta do research and go on tours now. Join a Facebook moms group local to your area and ask around. Make a spreadsheet and a list of info about each place /person. Decide and put your deposit down. 
Lots of people like the accommodation and price of a center but many prefer the in home care of a nanny, costs more. Decide what you feel comfortable with.
