Did sex change your relationship?

For those who waited a while before having sex with your boyfriend, did you feel it brought you closer and changed the intimacy and understanding in your relationship at all? If so, do you think it's basically the fact that you're finally completely naked with someone you love, doing the most intimate things two people can do together? I feel sex can be pretty emotional. In fact, it's most passionate when it's emotional and you literally can't get enough of one another.
