Amniotic band/limb difference *long post*
Our little princess puckering up.
After being informed at our 20 week scan that our little girl didn’t develop her right hand (she has some metacarpals but did not develop the rest of her hand/fingers), we were told that this happened by chance and there was no clear explanation as to why this occurred. They ruled out amniotic band syndrome and said that our little girl was growing perfectly otherwise.
We met with a specialist at Rush (we are located near Chicago), and the specialist said that they do not see anything else abnormal with our little girl and did not recommend any further testing.
Flash forward to our 24 week scan (we have them monthly now), I was informed that her radius/ulnar bone (forearm) on the right were measuring 3 weeks behind, but again, the specialist said that there is nothing to worry about.
Monday, I had my 28 week follow up ultrasound, again, and the forearm on the right was now measuring 5 weeks behind. The MFM specialist was not at our hospital that day, so I left with no answers.
I met with my OB-GYN today and she mentioned that the MFM specialist mentioned to her from the last ultrasound that she thinks there may be an amniotic band, in which I was never informed. My OB doc seemed to be shocked that the MFM specialist did not call me to explain things to me, so again, I am sitting here without answers. So here I sit, waiting for the phone call from the specialist to explain what exactly is going on, as my OB doc called and left a detailed message for the specialist to give me a call. If anyone has experienced anything like this, please let me know how things turned out for you/your child.
I am a first time mom, so the news is stressing me out, especially being that I am in my 3rd trimester today and I am just now being informed of possible amniotic band...
