Non-polynesian Kids dressing up as Maui and moana offensive?

sa

Hello, I’m wanting to make my children’s costumes for next Halloween. My son asked to be Maui.

By that time they will be 4.5 and 1.5. I was thinking Maui for my 4.5 yo son and Moana for my 1.5 yo girl. But I do not want to offend anyone, we are not Polynesian. I will not be painting their skin or using any products to darken their skin. Is it offensive if I do this? I do not want to be labeled a racist, or my children be labeled that either. I know cultural appropriation and racism is a hot topic so I want to be as respectful as I can to other cultures.
