Have you ever donated your hair?

If you have donated your hair already. Do you have any advice? Like was permed hair allowed? Was it really donated not profited on?

Most places actually have to “sell” the hair because they have to pay to have it made into a wig, so they can’t afford to lose money on it. But it’s still very valuable to donate your hair. My mom’s best friend had a human hair wig when she had cancer and it made her feel so much better about herself (even though she had to pay for it).

They usually only take virgin hair undyed and untreated like permanent curls or straightened

I haven’t cause any time I’ve cut enough off it had been colour treated a little too much so I didn’t think it was healthy enough, but my daughter has done it twice at 7 and 9 years old. She’s almost 10 and growing it out to do it again.

I donate my hair every year, usually 10 inches. I donate to the little princess trust, I’m not sure about other charities, but they usually have rules on the Troyes of hair you can and can’t donate. Needs to be a fair amount because they loose a lot in the wig making process. Either way it is a lovely thing to do :) hope this helps!

I’ve donated my hair 4 times, Locks of Love, just has to be a certain length and not be colored I think.  There’s a bunch of rules on their website.

I suggest finding an organization that’ll take your hair and then a corresponding salon. Or just mail your hair off yourself.

Locks of love takes free hair and sells it to cancer patients....I dont donate to them but check around locally for charities that do it nonprofit. Most* places wont take colored, permed or any kind of treated hair

i donated a good chunk of 7/8 inches of hair. i think they’re strict about the type of hair selected so i don’t think they’ll take treated or permed hair. but as i got older i was also told locks of love is apparently a scam 🤷🏻‍♀️
