I mean if it’s your husbands best friend’s kid, I would assume they would have play dates and stuff. It might be weird for them to have the same name if that’s the case. You could always run it by them though.

Hey everyone,
We have always loved the name jack for a boy but my husbands best friend called his son jack two years ago.
I think boys names are really hard and I don’t really like hardly any.
We won’t be finding out the sex of the baby but I don’t know whether we should just get the name out of my head or if it’s okay to get their thoughts on it?

If you love the name jack and there isnt another hot name that has made you feel the same way then definitely go for it! You can try talking to his friends and see how they would feel but I wouldn't ask them for permission to use the name... just if they would feel some type of way if you did decide to choose the name.
