Shoulder Dystocia

PK

My first son, born at 40 weeks, was 9lb11oz, 23in and had a shoulder dystocia at birth resulting in minor nerve damage which cleared up within a few months with occupational therapy.

Now I’m 31 weeks with #2. I’ve seen multiple doctors who have said that there is a chance of recurring shoulder dystocia, which can be dangerous, and they are recommending a cesarean. I’ve also done my own research and spoken to family members who are nurses and doctors, same opinion and information.

We are monitoring baby’s size right now and have another ultrasound at 36 weeks, after which we will make a decision about delivery. I really don’t want a cesarean and they said another option may be an early induction to increase chances of a successful vaginal delivery.

Has anybody experienced a shoulder dystocia during delivery? Has anybody had a vaginal delivery after a previous shoulder dystocia? Looking for anybody with any experience or information on this! Thank you!
