Would you name your son after his father or should the baby have his own identity?

My FIL is named Richard and named his first son Richard Mark, and my husband Paul Richard 🤦🏼‍♀️ it just seems so silly to me lol. FIL seems low key annoyed that I refuse to carry on his tradition with my son due in June. Not happening, buddy.

We’re naming our son Anthony after my husband, but we’re going to call him A.J. to give him his own identity. It was our compromise 🙃

I have a boy in my class (I teach fifth grade) unfortunately his mom and sad are no longer together and he doesn’t see dad. He is named after his dad and has cried multiple times this year because he goes by a nickname and when people call him his real name (dads) he gets really upset bc dad just isn’t there for him and it’s a reminder. Something I never thought of.

I like the tradition. I have my Grandmothers  name on my dads side and my other grandmas middle name.

Our son’s name is the reverse of my husband’s name. So my husband’s initials are MCL and our son’s are CML.

My dad is a junior and he hated it. He suggested we dont do it and my husband hates his name so we will not be doing it

I think using part of dads name is sweet, I wouldn’t give him the exact same name. If we ever gave a boy we will use my husbands first name as his middle name; since our daughter is named after my side of the family
