How would you handle it!?

Question

Today we went to my husbands sisters house and she has two girls 9 and 7 and a toddler who is almost 2 and I have two toddlers one is 3 and the other Is 2 and the her son(toddler) kept trying to hit my girls they would move and still he would take everything from them and try to hit them and my daughters don’t hit so they would just cry I moved them close to me and still he came over and tried to hit them being 34 weeks pregnant it’s hard to pick up my girls now so I just kept moving them and his mom( husbands sister) didn’t really say anything and let him do anything, how would you handle this I mean I don’t like my daughter being hit and i told my husband I don’t think I’m coming back to visit with my girls, I see the mom not caring at all what her son does, I would tell the little boy to please stop but he would try to hit me too, I’m sorry but I feel that boy needs discipline, sorry needed to vent I came out of her house very upset I don’t like my girls getting hurt

Well he’s 2. He’s still learning and he still doesn’t understand how to express what he is feeling or wants in an appropriate manner. I personally would have asked the mother of the child needed anything and to see if she could redirect him to a toy or something else. 
Physically disciplining him will just teach him that hitting and violence is ok. Yelling at him will instill an unnecessary fear. He’s only 2. Redirection is the best thing along with “no, we don’t hit. That hurts. Ow!”

I would talk to the mother first and express your concerns about him hitting your girls. Then go from there.

I would have corrected the boy "gentle paws friend.."  "oh no.. we dont hit.. it's not nice.. look at (daughter) face, see she doesnt like that.."  "we are making bad choices (toddler).. next time you are going to have to go sit and figure it out.. think about how hitting is not nice"
And when he is co-playing nicely "oh (toddler)!! I love how nicely you're playing.. too sweet!!"

I had a friend over and get daughter, her daughter was a year older than my son. Everything he wanted she'd take away because she wanted to play with it all of a sudden. He was around 6, her 7, then he'd get upset start crying and they'd start fighting. Her mom wouldn't say a damn word. Finally I got so sick of it, I went and took the toys and told em if they can't play together, neither of em get to have them. I felt bad because I felt like was punishing my son for something that wasn't his fault. Needless to say, I was so happy when they left, and they don't play together anymore. Her daughter is such a bully, I've seen her in other situations. Drives me nuts when parents won't do the right thing and show their kids the proper things to do. She also had a picture of her kid flipping the camera off at a young age, tells you about the kind of person her mom is too!

I would have scolded the boy using language he should understand and put him in a chair for time out. If he hit me, a swat on the butt, an appropriate scolding and time out chair. If he kept acting up, I'd bring him to his mother and tell her she needs to be a mother to her son and give him discipline before he turns into a little beast. I'd be very clear with her it's unacceptable her child is hitting his cousins and she needs to do something about it. 
She's not just your SO's sister. She's your family too. You can intervene and say something.
